What is Happiness and How To be Happy?



If you think about it deeply, happiness is a very elusive state that only a few can actually achieve. What we usually mistake for happiness is actually just excitement as a result of the external stimuli.

All of us are addicted to short-term happiness. What we meant by that is the joy that we get from things that we take like food, movies, or internet and whenever that joy is over, we feel like we are starving for more happiness.

Another thing is our brain keeps on encouraging us to stay on this never-ending ride of highs and lows, telling us that it’s just the nature of life but in reality, we’ve become the creators of the drama in our life in which we are now attached.

Sadly, true happiness is an inside job. To successfully find it, we have to first disconnect ourselves from the things that used to see, feel, hear, or taste. But that doesn’t mean you should stop eating your favorite food. You should start something new. Experience things that you haven’t been experienced before.

What Is Happiness?

In everyday life, people will usually say that happiness is a form of excitement which can be achieved through a lot of ways like having mind-blowing sex, or a very tasteful buffet. There are also people that will tell you that you will find happiness through love which is not wrong at all.

How to be Happy

The truth is, happiness and its definition can be different from person to a person. There are no right and wrong answers as long as you know the things that can bring you joy.

Now, what is happiness? really?

Happiness is the “state of being happy“.

Very short definition yet hard to fully achieve.

All of us has different opinions about happiness, and each of us has different ways to find this happiness that pleasures us.

How To Be Happy?

How do you make yourself happy? Do you just smile? Sure! some people do that to show that they are happy.

But some people just do that to make an excuse that they’re actually happy when in fact they’re not.
I’m not saying it’s a bad thing to do, but you’re lying to yourself and that’s the bad thing.
There are ways to be happy without pretending and that is appreciating all the things that you have.
Family, friends, pets or even nature. You have these things around you that you can appreciate.
Some people watch movies or funny videos to make themselves happy and that is great.
You can do all these things to make yourself happy.

Some people just focus on what they don’t have and that’s why they feel sad or frustrated.
I have met people who are like this and it’s a toxic place, it’s contagious. You can be like them just by being with them.

When you meet these kinds of people, what do you do? Do you just go and leave them behind?
There is no right answer for these questions, you can leave them, you can also NOT leave them.
But it’s important to realize that helping these kinds of people won’t help a lot IF they don’t help themselves in the first place.

So really, how?

To make yourself happy you must understand yourself first, what do you want? what makes you happy? what makes you NOT happy?
These questions are important in your life because if you don’t know the answers to these questions then it’s impossible for you to be happy.

Happiness also depends on where you were born or raised. If you grew up in a nice and happy environment with happy and supportive people that taught you the importance of all the good values in life, you are more likely to be a nice and happy person.

In contrast, if you are born in a distressed environment, you are more likely to have a stressful life unless you do something about it.
If you don’t know how to do it. you can still learn how to be happy.
Life taught us how to walk, how to write, how to sing, and how to live.
Learning how to be happy is not that hard because even the simplest things around us can give us joy.

So if you’re a person who focuses on what you don’t have, then it’s time for you to change, it’s time for you to focus on what you have and at the same time focus on how to have what you are missing.
