What is Facial Steaming?
Facial steaming or facial sauna is when you let steam absorb into your face for about 5 to 12 minutes using either a face steamer or a bowl of very hot water.
Most people use a towel over their head when they do facial steaming using a bowl of hot water to make the steam directed towards their face.
Important Benefits of Facial Steaming
Benefits of Facial Steaming
NUMBER 1: IT DEEPLY CLEANSES YOUR FACE
With facial steaming, you are able to have your skin deep cleansed naturally. This is because of the heat that is given by the steamer that you are using. It opens up your pores and as a result, dirt, bacteria, or even dead skin cells can be easily removed with the help of mild cleansers or facial scrub.
NUMBER 2: HELP PREVENT ACNE
Facial steaming is also very helpful to prevent acne from occurring. If you have suffered from acne for a very long time and haven’t tried facial steaming treatment yet, then this might help you a lot.
Why does this prevent acne? Facial steaming is a great way to keep your skin pores clean by opening them up so you can cleanse your face and prevent your pores from being clogged.
NUMBER 3: HELPS GET RID OF WHITEHEADS AND BLACKHEADS
Whiteheads and blackheads, they are a huge pain to deal with. Getting rid of them is not as simple as face washing. But fortunately, with the help of facial steaming treatments, it can be as simple as what your expecting.
By nature, our face produces something called a “sebum”. Sebum keeps your skin lubricated and protects it. But when sebum gets stuck inside of a follicle, breakouts will happen leading to what we call blackheads.
When you do facial steaming to your face, skin pores begin to open up and blackheads begin to get softer and by cleansing your face after facial steaming, getting rid of blackheads can be much easier.
NUMBER 4: HELPS YOU TO RELAX
Facial steaming not only helps you to have a clean face but it can also help you to relax after having a long day. That’s why it is highly recommended to do facial steaming before bedtime so you can rest not only your face but also your mind to be ready for another day.
NUMBER 5: SAVE YOU MONEY
Facial steaming is never expensive, all you need is either a Facial Steamer (If you prefer using these) or a bowl of very hot water. There’s nothing else you need to perform this treatment to your face. So give it a try, it’s totally worth it.
HOW TO DO FACIAL STEAMING?
NUMBER 1: WASH YOUR FACE
Personally, whenever I do facial steaming I wash my entire face first while waiting for water to be boiling. So I personally prefer you to wash your face first before facial steaming to make sure that there will be no dirt hanging in your face.
NUMBER 2: PREPARING YOUR STEAMER
You can add oils into your facial steamer to have a different treatment to your face. I personally put tea tree oil into my steamer to help me remove bacteria in my face as it opens up my pores.
NUMBER 3: FACIAL STEAMING
Here’s the best part, you can do facial steaming for around 5 to 12 minutes depending on what type of skin you currently have. Personally, I steam my face for about 10 minutes because it’s what spa usually does but if you want shorter than that you can go for about 5 to 8 minutes. It is important to remember that you can not go for more than 12 minutes, as it makes your pores swollen and dry. That’s why most of the people only do it for around 10 minutes only.
NUMBER 4: CLEANSING AND RINSING
After facial steaming, cleanse your face once again with cleanser or facial scrub that you like to use. Don’t rub your face too hard because your pores are sensitive because of the facial steaming. After washing your face, rinse your face with cold water. This time we are going to close our pores.
You see the pattern here?
- Washing your face to make sure your face is clean
- Steaming your face to open your pores
- Cleansing your open pores to get rid toxins and bacteria
- Rinsing with cold water to close your pores.
After facial steaming, you can use moisturizers to prevent your face from being dry and irritated. I personally use Facial Masks as it has lots of nutrition that my face needs to be moisturized.
